For the following problems, use copper wire with either THHN or THWN insulation, depending on conditions. The voltage is 120 volts.

1. Determine the minimum wire size needed to supply power to the following equipment using one branch circuit:
  • 5,000 W. furnace
  • 2,000 W. furnace
  • 500 W. welder
The maximum ambient temperature is 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
The wiring will not be subjected to wet conditions.

2. Determine the minimum wire size needed to supply power to the following parking-lot lighting system using one branch circuit:
  • Ten 500 W. lamps
  • Five 700 W. lamps.
The maximum ambient temperature is 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
The wiring will be subjected to wet conditions.
